Preventive measures for structure clogging of plate heat exchanger

The flow passage clearance of plate heat exchanger is small (2.5 ~ 6mm), and particles and sundries with a diameter greater than 1.5 ~ 3mm are easy to block the plate passage, which makes the pressure drop of the equipment deteriorate sharply, leading to the failure of the equipment due to blockage. According to the need, coarse filter or backwash device can be set at the inlet of the medium, which can effectively prevent the equipment from blocking. 

2. Scale

Scaling can reduce the heat transfer coefficient of heat transfer equipment and even block the plate channel in severe cases. According to the viewpoint of fluid mechanics, scaling is easy to be generated in the fluid laminar flow layer, and the fluid in the plate heat exchanger can be turbulent in the flow state with a very low Reynolds number (Re < 100), so scaling is not easy to be formed in this equipment. However, the analysis of scale samples in plate heat exchanger shows that sometimes the scaling phenomenon is very serious. Plate heat exchanger plate design has a lot of bearing contact, aimed at turbulence on medium (medium turbulence) in order to improve the heat transfer coefficient and pressure on the supporting role, is easy to gather solid impurities or fibers, its side effects are make fluid formed local stagnation and generate dirt deposition of tumor, medium after the precipitation of calcium and magnesium ions in the appropriate temperature easily on the deposition of tumor to grow up, honeycombing scale sample. Although the causes of clogging and scaling are different, their effects on plate heat exchangers are the same. Its countermeasures are:


1. Plate heat exchangers should not be used in dirty or scale-prone environments (unless effective other measures are added).


2. When using unsoftened cooling water as the cooling medium, the operating temperature should be controlled at about 50℃ or even lower to avoid the sensitive temperature of calcium and magnesium ions precipitation in the medium. For domestic hot water (bath water), a special temperature control system should be designed to control the temperature of the water (bath water is not allowed to be softened or treated by other chemical methods) in order to allow normal use of the equipment.
