Advantages of plate heat exchanger over shell heat exchanger

1. The plate heat exchanger with high heat transfer coefficient is composed of different corrugated plates. The corrugated plates flip each other to make the heat transfer coefficient of the fluid flowing through the pipeline higher. It's three to five times the size of the shell.

 

2. The logarithmic average temperature difference is large, the temperature difference at the end of the shell-and-tube heat exchanger is small, the flow rate is transverse, the average temperature difference coefficient is small, and the plate heat exchanger is parallel or countercurrent, so the temperature difference at the end is small, and the water heat transfer can be less than 1.

 

3. Compact structure of small plate heat exchanger. The volume of heat exchanger is 2 ~ 5 times that of shell and tube heat exchanger. The area of small plate heat exchanger is 4 times smaller than that of shell heat exchanger.

 

4. The heat transfer area or process combination is easy to change. If only a few plates are added or decreased, the heat transfer area can be changed accordingly, and the reassembly process can be changed by changing the arrangement of plates.

 

5. The thickness of the light plate type is about 0.4-0.8mm, and the thickness of the shell type is about 2.0-2.5mm, so it is much lighter than the shell type.

 

6. Compared with the two types of heat exchangers with the same heat transfer area and the same material, the heat transfer efficiency of plate heat exchanger is about half lower than that of shell type.
